Welcome to The 22nd SAS Regiment UK/EU Gaming Clan's Website |
-The British Special Air Service-
In July 1941, David Stirling, then a junior officer with the Scots Guards, tricked his way into the middle east headquarters and eventually made it to the office of Major General Neil Ritchie, the then Deputy Chief of Staff.
Stirling put forward his plan to destroy Axis aircraft in the western desert while they were still on the ground. This was to be achieved by a small group of hand picked men, who were to parachute behind enemy lines before the next Allied offensive.
General Ritchie approved Stirling's plan and gave permission for him to raise his small force of hand picked men. The name of the new force was to be L Detachment, The Special Air Service Brigade.
The "Brigade" part of the name was a ploy, to trick the Axis forces into believing that the Allies had a parachute formation at large in the middle east.
The SAS has set the standards for other special forces in many fields.
History has proven that the SAS is swift, versatile and damned effective.
In the world of special forces one name stands out above all others the UK`s SPECIAL AIR SERVICE. From the second world war, to the storming of the Iranian embassy and then the Gulf war, Afghanistan and now Iraq, the SAS has been involved in countless other operations that little or nothing is known about.
|  David Stirling | We are a Battlefield 2 and Call of Duty 4 clan who are currently just breaking into the world of Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising. We are a clan where fun, loyalty, friendship, sportsmanship and a strong sense of fair-play are paramount. Gaming skill takes second place. We play under the 22SAS clan tags in our clan supported games.

In December 2001 when Ghost Recon was launched, a chap called Smith recruited a player called Mazing in a Ghost Recon forum. Mazing was so impressed with the game that he was wanting to create his own clan, which he planned to call STK (Shoot To Kill), but Smith had told him that he had just started a clan of his own and that he would like Mazing to join. The 22nd Special Air Service UK Gaming Clan was born consisting only of Smith, Logun, LocknLoad and Mazing.
Then one day about 6 months later, Mazing, the cousin of my then flat mate, came round to my house with this game called Ghost Recon. I didn't know him, he didn't know me either, but he had heard from my flat mate that I was into computer games... although in truth, I was a complete noob at PC gaming, in every sense of the word. But when he installed it on my very first, brand new PC, I too was so impressed with the game that I just could not stop playing it.
Being as he had installed this game on my system for me, and that I was completely new to the whole First Person scene, this 22SAS_Mazing person took me under his wing and tutored me in the art of pwnage. By that time, he was a Lance Corporal (a term I understood from my time with the Air Training Corps (aka RAF cadets)) in the clan, and having started as a Probationer in this brand new clan, he had made the rank of Lance Corporal through the good graces of the clan founders - RSM Smith, SSM Logun and SSM Locknload.
Being as I was now his protege, I was introduced by Mazing to the 22SAS clan and it's other new members Detonator and ToeCutter, with the view to also eventually joining, which I did after about 2 months of becoming efficient at FPS's. After a while in the clan, I was made up to a Lance Corporal and Maz was given the rank of Sergeant.
Eventually, and after a fair few members coming and going, including Locknload and Detonator, RSM Smith left the clan to join the Army. SSM Logun took command and some of the members in the clan moved up too, including of course Maz and myself. As time went on the clan grew into a full squad and we started competing in Ghost Recon on Clan Base and WAR, and earned ourselves a lot of respect within the Ghost Recon community as well as with other UK Ghost Recon clans. By this point, I'm sure the likes of Beaker, Force-Ten and Rhino were also members. Smith's career in the Army didn't work out and he returned to the clan for a short time as a Lieutenant - since Logun was now the RSM - but he didn't stay for long and moved on to another Ghost Recon clan called BPR (The British Parachute Regiment, or the Power Rangers as we called them). Some more time passed, when Logun decided his time too had come in the clan to move on. The clan's future looked non-existant. By now, none of the original founding members were left to run the clan. It looked bleak. But there was Maz. As I understand it, he and Beaker had a heart to heart and Beaky-Beaky convinced Maz to take over as the RSM. Hooray for Beaky, and hooray for Maz.
Maz led the clan, I was his apprentice, and together we ruled the galax... only kidding.
That was, at least, until the 27th of September 2009 - truely a very sad day for the 22nd SAS Clan. After almost 8 years in the clan and 6 years in command, Maz decided to move on. He resigned his commission as clan leader, much to the suprise and sorrow of the Directing Staff - and indeed, everyone.
I officially took command on the 1st of October 2009 and I now look forward to taking this clan into the future as a mature and friendly tactical gaming clan.
